SAP Integrated Planning (IP) has established itself as a proven framework and essential component in modern corporate planning. As the technological foundation of the SAP BPC Embedded Model, IP continues to form the backbone for modern planning applications in SAP BW. By using global data warehouse objects from SAP BW, SAP IP enables seamless integration and harmonized data processing, ensuring precise and realistic planning. This allows companies to link actual and plan figures in a centralized environment without generating redundant data or relying on different tools. The integration ensures that planning processes run seamlessly and that all planners have access to uniform, high-quality data.

Dank der Integration in das SAP BW sowie der vordefinierten Funktionen genießt es eine große Verbreitung und ist vor allem für SAP BW Bestandskunden interessant.
SAP BW IP is widely used and will continue to exist in its constituent parts, as its core functions form the basis for SAP BPC Embedded as a strategic planning product in BW/4HANA. In contrast to BW IP as a pure planning solution, BPC Embedded offers additional consolidation and process management functions. This makes it very easy to switch to BPC and you decide whether and when this switch should take place. Thanks to the Planning Application Kit (PAK), which transfers the planning processes to the HANA database, you are also ideally equipped for the increasing volumes of data.
SAP BW IP is fully integrated into the company's SAP environment and uses harmonized data from the business warehouse. This enables central, company-wide planning. Planning processes are predefined and use uniform planning objects and planning layouts. This ensures that all planners speak the same language.

The project duration is shortened thanks to predefined functions and a modular approach. At the same time, manual activities are reduced, which shortens planning cycles and increases planning quality. And thanks to HANA technology, you can increase the performance of your planning applications many times over with PAK (Planning Application Kit).

SAP BW IP is seamlessly integrated into SAP BW and provides direct access to standardized operational data. This diversity allows SAP BW IP to be used for different types of planning, whether it is sales forecasting, cost planning, HR planning or operational sales planning. This means that all data in SAP BW can serve as the basis for a precise and comprehensive planning solution, which significantly improves the quality of planning.
‣ Included in SAP BW
SAP BW IP is already included in the standard SAP BW license up to version 7.5, which enables cost-efficient use. With the introduction of BW/4HANA, the license model has changed. Please note that a separate BPC license is required to use any planning functionality in SAP BW/4HANA, whether with or without BPC Embedded. SAP BW IP has a number of predefined functions as standard feature, which enables, for example, the copying, revaluation or forecasting of planning data. You only have to parameterize the existing planning functions instead of having to develop basic functions yourself. This way, you save time and free up resources for really demanding tasks.
While you can already cover a lot of typical requirements with the standard planning functions, they only serve standard processes. If you have to implement a certain calculation logic, for example, you need to calculate the contribution margin or have other special requirements, FOX provides you with a simple scripting language. This enables you to quickly and easily implement even the most demanding requirements. You can also map individual and complex logics using your own planning function types in an ABAP OO class. The advantage here is that you can use PAK to execute your business logic in an optimized way on the SAP HANA database by also implementing an SQLScript procedure.
Consistent planning data is crucial for a smooth business process. You can use characteristic relationships to define which combinations you want to allow within your planning application. At the same time, you can also derive the correct values automatically.
If you want to ensure that the planned values are no longer changed after the completion of a planning cycle, you can protect them from changes throughout the system. To do this, use so-called data slices to lock these values.
SAP BW IP is not bound to a specific planning frontend, so your planners have the flexibility to choose the tool that suits them best. They have the option of using classic Excel-based planning with Analysis for Office (AfO), which can also be seamlessly integrated into BPC Business Process Flows (BPF). Alternatively, you can use SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC). By integrating planning queries and BPC planning sequences directly into Stories 2.0, your planners can benefit from the convenient SAC functions for table-based changes and a modern visual user interface. SAP BW IP is also compatible with legacy tools such as SAP Lumira or the BEx suite.
