SAP Analytics Cloud offers per default extensive functions for currency conversion. For example, you can convert values from a global currency into the currency of the company code and plan in several currencies at the same time. The conversion can be carried out both on the fly and with the help of data actions. SAP Analytics Cloud has now expanded its portfolio to include unit conversion. In this article, we will introduce this useful tool.
The conversion can either be based on a defined unit or automatically from the dimension property of type unit. This property can be integrated and maintained in any generic dimension. It is particularly helpful if you are planning with different units per product or activity type. You can model several unit properties in the same dimension.
As you know from currency conversion, units can also be converted on the fly using conversion measures. When planning, you can enter the values for either the base or the conversion key figure. This enables flexible and user-friendly data entry.
In addition to the virtual conversion in the story, you can also use a data action to save the data in a different unit. To do this, use a conversion step and define a source and target measure.
The unit conversion in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is based on a central conversion table, which can be found together with the currency conversion tables in the Modeler under Conversions tab. This table contains over 400 entries for different units and cannot be edited. This ensures a consistent conversion.
The introduction of unit conversion further enhances SAP Analytics Cloud as an analysis and planning platform. The combination of flexible handling - whether through on-the-fly conversion or data actions - and the comprehensive, standardised conversion table makes it easier to work with different units of measurement.
Users benefit from sophisticated integration into existing functions and intuitive operation when entering data. Especially for companies that work internationally, this extension represents significant added value and once again emphasises SAP Analytics Cloud as a future-oriented solution for modern business intelligence processes.
